We offer a variety of thicknesses and densities of insulating foam. The various aspects of the differences are listed below.

Foam Density 1 | 1 pound | 1½ pound | 2 pound | 1 pound | 1½ pound |
Foam Thickness 2 | 4" x 2" | 4" x 2" | 4" x 2" | 6" x 4" | 6" x 4" |
R-value 3 | R-13 | R-14 | R-15 | R-21 | R-22 |
Strength Rating | 1 | 1.5 | 2 | 1.66 | 2.49 |
Overall weight (7') | 32 | 36 | 40 | 38 | 46 |
Please note, we only use true, real ratings, never nominal measurements.
1 Companies using "nominal" measurements could claim 1½ pound density foam, but in fact could be using foam that is only 1 to 1¼ pound density (we even found one company advertising 2 pound density when in fact it was only 1 pound).
2 If we used "nominal" measurements we could advertise our 4" to 2" tapered foam being as thick as 4½" to 3".
3 All spa covers use the same type of insulating foam. Per inch of thickness, similar densities of foam all have the same insulating value. Different testing procedures though, can alter the determined R value (aka, "fudging the numbers"). Our R values are based on the standard ASTM testing procedures for the construction industry.
