Floating Thermal Blankets
Our floating thermal blankets are made of a 2 lb. density, 1/4" thick, closed cell foam. Because the foam is 'closed cell' it will not absorb water, so unlike other blankets it's not necessary to coat the foam with a colored vinyl to keep the water out. The advantages of a simple floating blanket are rather astounding. Most importantly, a floating blanket almost completely eliminates evaporation. By eliminating evaporation a floating cover can reduce the operating costs of a spa in numerous ways.
Heat travels through moist air much quicker than dry air. Reducing the moisture between the water surface and your insulating cover will cut down greatly on heating costs....
Less evaporation = Lower heating costs
Chlorine, ozone, and to some extent bromine evaporate from the water, simply dissipating into the air and bleaching out the underside of your insulating cover (or eating away the underside of some covers)....
Less evaporation = Lower chemical costs
Most insulating covers eventually absorb water and get very heavy. Much of this water can come from the rising steam....
Less evaporation = Longer cover life
By eliminating evaporation you'll also find that the chemical balance of your water will remain more stable thereby allowing you to go longer between water changes (oh yeah, water cost money too....more savings).

* We do not recommend Top Load Bromine Feeders be used with these, or any other blankets or covers. Top load bromine feeders excessively off-gas bromine through the top lid and cause cause premature damage to any cover installed above it. Warranty and installation instructions can be found in this PDF file.

Floating Thermal BlanketsDesigned to float on the water's surface, the floating spa blanket is lightweight and durable. It protects and extends the life of your spa insulating cover while significantly reducing heat loss and chemical evaporation/consumption. Neutral blue in color, and made of 1/4" thick closed-cell polyethylene foam, these blankets are easily cut to size, and much more resistant to "bunching up" than the bubble blankets. Blankets over 5' wide consist of two pieces of foam "welded" together into a single blanket.

Bubble BlanketsFor a lesser expensive (and slightly inferior) floating blanket, we also offer the standard type Bubble Blanket. Looking similar to 'bubble wrap', these thick blue covers do an excellent job of eliminating evaporation. These 12 mil thick, square blankets are easily cut to size with a pair of scissors.

Floating Blanket LeashIf you use a cover lifter and a floating blanket this is something you wont know how you ever did without. The Floating Blanket Leash attaches your floating blanket to your spa cover so that when you open your cover, and remove it with the cover lifter, the floating blanket is automatically removed at the same time. No longer will you need to manually remove your floating blanket, and figure out where to put it when you use your spa. Your floating blanket will also remain clean since it will be gently hanging over your insulating cover on top of the cover lifter. |
